SOLDIER CRAB
The Soldier Crab is a small but captivating crustacean commonly found along Australia's tropical and subtropical coastlines. Famous for their mass migrations, these crabs move in large, coordinated groups across mudflats as the tide recedes. Their pale, rounded bodies and long eye stalks give them a distinctive appearance. Soldier Crabs feed by sifting sand for organic material, playing an important role in recycling nutrients within coastal ecosystems. In our exhibit, visitors can observe their synchronized movements and social behavior up close. Despite their size, they are one of the most memorable sights in Australia's intertidal zones.
