RAINBOW PARROTFISH
The Rainbow Parrotfish is one of the most colorful inhabitants of Australia's tropical reefs. Equipped with a beak-like mouth, it scrapes algae and coral from reef surfaces as it feeds. This feeding behavior plays a vital role in maintaining reef health by preventing algae overgrowth. Parrotfish are known for dramatic color changes throughout their lives and between sexes. At night, some species produce a mucus cocoon for protection while sleeping. Our exhibit showcases the movement, color, and ecological importance of these reef architects.
